Is constipation normal with pregnancy?

I’m not sure if I’m pregnant or not. It’s very likely. I’m three days to a week late. My question though is not rather or not I may be pregnant (I have an appointment Monday.) I have been constipated lately. It feels like I have to go but I just can’t could this be a sign of pregnancy or part of it?

You wouldn’t be constipated early in pregnancy. only later when the baby presses down on you bowels and it makes it take longer to poo because of less room.

Constipation is very common in pregnancy, and I disagree with the person who said it just because they baby is making it harder to do so. The constipation is caused by your body taking it’s time digesting the food and sucking more of the nutrients out of it, leaving you left with very solid pieces of fecal matter. Increases in things like iron can also lead to constipation.

Actually some women become constipated in early pregnancy due to the hormonal changes that take place others cant stay off the toilet!! I say take a test and until you know if your pregnant or not you can take a fiber supplement that does not contain laxatives or aspartame!! laxatives and apsertame have been linked to misscarrages and deformaties to some babies. if you need an alternative for sugar take splenda, it is safe for those that cannot have regular sugar includeing diabetics and hyperactives!!

well constipation is definitely part of the pregnancy. its more normal than you think. just let your doctor know and he can prescribe you prenatal pills with stool softener in it.
