What stupid advice has other people given you regarding your baby?

I have a few pet peeves, and one of them is stupid advice regarding the care of a newborn baby. I understand that many things work for many children. For that I am grateful to those who have had far more experience than I have. But today, I was out and about with a young lady who just had twins, about 6 weeks ago. They were due for a well baby check up since they are preemies. Sure no big deal. I can go along to help take care one baby, while one is being seen.

But as I sat there in the rather large waiting room, one of the babies needed to be changed and fed. So I took the little man with me into the rest room wiped off the changing table with an alcohol pad. Just as I was doing this, a lady was washing her hands and looked over at me and said, "You know it’s best not to wipe that off with an alcohol wipe. The baby needs to be exposed to things to build his immune system." I just smiled and calmly said, "Well he’s not your baby, and I am doing my very best to help prevent this little guy from getting
sick. He’s a PREEMIE, and his immune system is not up to snuff. So please keep your advice to yourself. Thank you." Well the lady just turned as red as an apple, and scooted out of the restroom.

I go back out into the waiting room, about this time the little guy is screaming his head off for his bottle. So I give him his bottle, and he’s now quiet, and content. A few chairs down from me is a mom who is obviously breast feeding. She just looks at me and said, "Why don’t you breast feed him?" I just shook my head. I said, "Maam he’s not my son. His mother is in with his sister for a well baby check up. Why she chose to bottle feed is her choice." She then gets this look of "I am a know it all", and then says to me, "Well his mother should be breast feeding. ALL babies should be breast fed. It is what’s best for ALL babies." I said, "Maam, I applaud your decision to breast feed your child. But I find your words and tone offensive. My friend can’t breast feed because she has an autoimmune disorder. Nutritionally speaking she CAN’T breast feed both babies and stay healthy. She’s doing the best she can. So please keep your comments to yourself." The lady didn’t say another word, and was called back soon after I told her to basically STFU!

There were a few mothers in the lobby who over heard the conversation, and one applauded my choice of words. So the conversation shifted to stupid advice from people. I heard a gambit of things today here are some of the things I heard today, that just made me shudder!
-You shouldn’t hold your baby to much, you will spoil him/her.
-You should lay the baby on his/her tummy (UH SIDS)
-You should give your baby ONLY breast milk, NO matter what
-You shouldn’t swaddle your baby
-You shouldn’t give your baby tylenol when they are in pain or have a fever.
-You shouldn’t give your baby karo syrup for constipation (worked very well for my son when he was stopped up). That advice came from a doctor
-You should expose your baby to germs to help build up their immune system (really brilliant with a preemie).

Oh I heard quite a bit today ladies. So tell me what stupid advice have you gotten that just made you want to tell someone to STFU?

Do you have any suggestions for newborn (2 months) constipation? ?

My little girl is definitely constipated. She is only poo’ing out the little balls. She has done this a could of times today and I am concerned. I know to give more water. But are there any other remedies out there that you can recommend from experience. I am NOT giving her Karo Syrup (not the light or dark). But I hate to know my little baby is suffering. She is only 2 months.
She is formula fed. We switched her to soy about a week ago, this problem is new.
1. It is the weekend.
2. I was looking for other methods because the prune juice 1oz with 2 oz of water didn’t seem to work. I as the pediatrician before coming on here.
My pediatrician is against the use of Karo. Also, I have read some terrible things about it. Some people use light Karo some Dark. I have heard more bad things about the dark. SO it is to iffy for me to take a chance. And I don’t take chances with my babies She isn’t crying uncontrollably, we just know she is due to the size of the stools.
Pediatrician recommended the switch in the formula each time.

My Newborn Is Colic I think?

So I went back to visit my parents in Chicago over the holidays which is about a 4 to 5 hour drive from my home in Fort knox. While there my daughter was sleeping normal and acting normal which for her is going to bed about 10 waking at 5:30 for a feed and then sleeping til about 9am. She is about 6 weeks. All of a sudden after we were there for about 5 days she starts waking every hour or two crying horribly. Everything I did was not comforting her and nothing would make her feel comfortable. I took her to the doctor thinking maybe she had an ear infection and they said nothing was wrong with that but her stomach sounded a bit off. Maybe gas or constipation. She pooped fine that night and was getting out the gas just normal. Unfortunately she is still in this condition and I can’t figure out what else to do. It seems like it starts aroung 7 or 8pm and she wants to sleep so bad but will suddenly pull up her legs, kick, and just cry like she is hurting and I feel AWFUL that I can’t help her. I switched her formula from Nestle Soy to Enfamil Neutrmagen which is expensive, but anything to make her better. I was just curious if anyone knows what exactly colic is?? Is it like stomach cramps?? I was also curious if anyone tried that formula and if it worked for them and how long their baby was on it.

my 10 day old newborn seems to have constipation because she has not pooped for the last 5 feedings.?

I am trying to breastfeed more and more but am only producing an ounce every few hours so i supplement formula at every feeding. I know formula is better for the baby and easier to digest but until I can produce enough I will have to feed her formula. she was very good at pooping almost after every feeding. until yesterday and all night. I know it bothers her because she will cry in her sleep. and she has tons of gas. but when i check all she has is a wet diaper. any advice would help thanks.

screaming newborn.. need help!?

i have a 2 week old baby boy, who was being both formula and breast fed. 4 days ago he began sowing signs of constipation, he went to the doctor and she told me to try karo syrup. I did, it worked for the 1st 2 days then it wouldnt work.. last night i decided to switch him to soy because he literally stayed up crying with no fever from 2am until 8:30am, trying to push out more and more poop., He did poop, it was greenish yellow and more of thick substance but not hard… more sticky. He still is crying quite a bit, what is wrong with him!! I also bought the mylicon drops to help if he had gas and have been giving i to him at every feeding. what should i do???? or what do u expect it may be..?? this is obviously my first baby!
i am not getting enough breast milk to only give him breast that would be why im also supplementing.. im lucky to get 2 ounces at each sitting between the both of them. and i know his belly hurts im askin if there is something i can do for him
