Lower, left abdominal pain. With back pain and fatigue?
Over the past couple weeks I have gone through a number of symptoms, tests and appointments, listed chronologically;
-unable to pass gas
-unable to have a bowel movement (constipation)
-Citra-Mag and fleet enema used as relief
-Constipation and bloating persists, multiple hospital, doctor and walk-in visits
-x-rays taken, proving constipation
-ultra sound taken, showing enlarged spleen, liver and thickened bowel wall
-blood tests taken, showing high LKC and Neutrophils, 1-3 points above the high end of the normal range
-Pain in lower left side following through to lower to upper back
-Prescribed antibiotics, 1) PMS-METRONIDAZOLE 500MG, 1 dose twice daily.
2) APO-CIPROFLOX 500MG, 1 dose, twice daily.
-Once on this medication, constipation seems to have been relieved.
-Still having pain in left side and back
-Small poppy seed size black dots in stool, small amount
-Soft, pale stools, with mucus
-Discomfort in left side of abdomen still (on last day of 7 day prescription)
-Pain has been greatly minimized, without any painkillers
-Having frequent, soft, foul smelling bowel movements
-Notice joint pain in legs at random times of the day, minimal Charlie horse feeling that doesn’t last more than 5 minutes to an hour at most.
I have been referred to a GI Specialist. The specialist has sent me for a CT scan which showed some swollen lymphnodes, and mild
bowel wall thickening. The pain in my side (to the left of my belly button) still remains, however it is not constant, it comes and goes. I
have not had a firm, solid bowel movement in 3 weeks. Scheduled for a colonoscopy Oct. 20 2009.
More symptoms have developed, including fatigue (very tired throughout the day) even though getting pleanty of sleep
Dehydration, having to drink 5-8 bottles of water a day.
Back pain, in correspondance with the pain in my lower left abdomen, however sometimes the pain will go up my back to my shoulders. Small amount of pain has
been noticed in my right side (to the right of belly button) and around to back in same spot as well. This pain is not severe, however noticable.
Pressure or gas buildup in stomach area, top of abdomen. Can hear gurgling sounds, belching somewhat relieves this symptom.
Diet has consisted of Water to drink, fruits and vegetables, soup, salad, chicken sandwich on whole wheat or whole grain bread, and pizza to eat. Some pasta, etc.
Feeling like I am not holding in the liquids as I tend to urinate faster than I can drink the water. Seems like the nutrients from the food i eat doesnt seem to be
absorbed by my body.
Bowel movements have been pale, watery at times, and contain a mucus.. No blood, however I have noticed at times there will be some tiny black specks, almost like
coffee grounds. (Small amount).
In the mean time the GI Specialist has prescribed me
the same antibiotics that the hospital prescribed. 1) PMS-METRONIDAZOLE 500MG, 1 dose three times daily.
2) APO-CIPROFLOX 500MG, 1 dose, twice daily.
This time he has prescribed the treatment for 14 days instead of the previous 7 day, and the Metronidazole 3 times a day instead of the previous twice a day.
If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
I forgot to mention. I am a 20 year old male. 207lbs. I have lost weight during this ordeal. I used to weigh about 220lbs. Another symptom is my face gets hot, feels very dry. No sweat coming from my head during the last week, which is odd as I usually tend to sweat the most from my head. Seems also my facial hair hasnt been growing as quickly as normal. I also get random headaches that go away with rest. my eyes also seem to be dry.
Thanks, any advice is appreciated.

Is it possible for a bowel obstruction to resolve with home treatment? ?
The last 24 hours or so I feel like that has been my problem, I had one a few years ago with my second pregnancy and that is pretty much how I feel now, a little less severe possibly. I started drinking lots of water and prune juice and I think I’m feeling better, not 100% yet, but much much better. If it was an obstruction and not constipation could the prune juice have made a difference?
I do have an history of gastroschisis as a newborn with gangrene/removal of part of my intestine, so I do have to be careful somewhat with my diet…

I have IBS-C and have developed an internal hemorrhoid. What is my best treatment option?
I have constipation predominant IBS with occ. bouts of loose stools but mostly hard painful ones. Recently, the straining for the (lack) of bowel movement seems to have created an internal hemorrrhoid that pokes out during bowel movements and is causing a good deal of pressure and pain. I happen to be in an incredibly difficult time at work right now making taking off for a doctor’s appointment a last choice, although i could go to an urgent care after hours if i thought it would be best, and meant that I didn’t have to miss work tomorrow. What should I do? I’m on a very high fiber diet that includes both soluble and insoluble fiber and its done nothing, so please don’t start with the "more fiber" comments.

I’m In Really Bad Pain From Constipation. Is There Anything I Can Do? Also, How Does Not Defecating Kill Peopl?
I have severe chronic constipation. Lately, it’s been getting really bad. I’ve been having a few small ‘pebbles’ once a month.
I’ve tried everything, fiber, more water, Colace, eating only fruits and vegetables, laxatives, more exercise. Nothing works, and enemas only work half the time.
I’m so backed up that my naturally only a little chubby tummy now looks like I am about six months pregnant, and it feels incredibly hard, not like soft fat.
I am hurting so bad right now. I just took an enema, and I didn’t even poop enough to make one normal sized bowel movement. What can I do to stop hurting? I have a doctors appointment Monday, but I need relief now.
Also, how does not pooping kill people? I know that there are toxins in the poop, and if it does not exit the body, these toxins start leaving the colon and enter the body. What happens after this?
Will I get very sick or die from only going the small amount I am now without medical treatment?
Thank you.
I don’t have health insurance, so unless it’s an emergency no E.R for me.
And I have no other conditions that I’m aware of.
From what I read, people die after a few months of not defecating, and I’m really worried about my health.

I’ve been constipated for 17 days now, help please!?
I have been constipated for 17 days now without making a bowel movement. When, if ever do I seek medical treatment? And, by whom? I’m guessing that my constipation is due to the use of pain killers for another problem and stress, but laxatives, fiber, and stool softeners do not work.
I am starting to feel and look very bloated. Also, I am having pain in my pelvic region at times. It is not constant. And, I am having a probelm with urinating that I don’t know if it’s related or not. It takes me a few minutes to pee when I fee like I could pee quickly and all day. I keep running to the restroom and nothing happens whether bowel or unirary.
I’m 27, male, healthy, eats relatively well, etc.
What should I do? I can use anyone’s and everyone’s advice.
Many thanks.

Is Amebiasis infections has a permanent effect on the intestines?
I was infected by Amebiasis about 18 month ago, I was treated in the hospital and after the treatment, follow-up with a stool analysis, the result was negative.
Since that, I got a strong constipation, and I was treated also, currently, I feet that my intestines is very sensitive (specially from spices).
Is the effect of having Amebiasis is permanent or it will go after some time.

I think that I caught an infection from a hysterectomy surgery?
On June 12th, I had a total hysterectomy. Everything seemed to have gone well. I noticed that I might have a yeast infection. I called the doctor and she told me to get monastat 3. I took the treatment and it appeared to have cleared up. I then, after 5 days started to feel very bad. I had a very smelly discharge, could hardly walk, diarreah, constipation, diarreah, constipation, back and forth. I went to the emergency room and was told that I had bad pain control because I wasn’t taking vicodin. I was told to take my vicodin and was given gas meds. I went home and got worse. Long story short, I went back to the hospital and had a abcess and pelvic infection. The center for infectious diseases was called in and because the hospital didn’t know how to treat my infection .I was put on 3 different types of antibiotics and spent five days in the hospital. I feel that this took place in the operating room and need advice on what to do next. Thank you in advance for your answer

Could this be endometriosis or something worse?
Since November ‘08, I’ve been having the problem of painful intercourse. I’ve tried lubes, and while they seem to do the trick for a while, it still hurts. During sex I feel a bit of a stabbing pain and cramping, and afterwards, it feels raw and sore. I’ve recently taken Monistat, and even after I was finished treatment, it still hurt.
Since Nov., I’ve also been having strange tissue like discharge. Nothing like an infection, or blood clot, but looks like the inside of your cheek. Very pinky/white, and fatty.
Also, my period has been going a little crazy. I’m either having it too early, or it’s only light spotting one day&very heavy the next.
Finally, maybe unrelated, but I’ve been also having pretty severe constipation. I’ve heard that endometriosis could cause that, and I’m worried since the ER I went to (for the abdominal pain&constipation) didn’t know why I was in pain but said to just get a box of laxatives.
Can anyone help? My gyno isn’t very available!
